Microsoft Has No "Specific" Xbox Live Announcements For Switch Right Now

Microsoft Has No

Redmond-based Microsoft has thrown the cat amongst the pigeons in the world of console and mobile gaming by announcing a cross-platform SDK created to bring Xbox Live features to games running on mobile platforms like iOS and Android.

The new Microsoft Game Stack unites services such as Xbox Live, Azure, Visual Studio and PlayFab, the Seattle startup Microsoft acquired previous year. Developers will be able to pick and choose which Xbox Live features they want to integrate, with the entire process being enabled through a single sign-in to a Microsoft Account.

Well, GDC won't kick off until next week but Microsoft has just made official its ambitious plans for Xbox Live.

Rumors have been swirling for some time that Nintendo and Microsoft were up to "something" and while it was initially rumored that GamePass was headed to the Switch, Xbox Live integration may make a bit more sense. "Really uniting all those communities together with a consistent singular experience for those gamers". Xbox Live will be a major component of the Microsoft Game Stack, along with DirectX, Visual Studio, Azure, and PlayFab, the backend service for building and operating live games that Microsoft acquired back in January 2018. "If you watch what we've done, especially with Minecraft, over the past few years we've taken Xbox Live to as many platforms as Minecraft is on as possible". That means that those games can link to Xbox Live for functionality such as achievements, friends lists, clubs, hero statistics, and Gamerscore.

"Historically, our lineup of game developer tools has been varied and lived in pockets all across Microsoft", Kareem Choudhry, Microsoft corporate vice president of gaming cloud said in a briefing ahead of the big Game Developers Conference this week. Does that mean we'll see Xbox Live better integrated on Switch? Today we got the official announcement. but Nintendo Switch support is mysteriously missing. I wouldn't hold my breath.
