Suspended Irving says he's quitting, blasts NFL

David Irving, the star defensive end for the Dallas Cowboys, has announced that he is quitting the NFL in a profanity-laced Instagram video in which he takes aim at the league's anti-marijuana stance.

David Irving quit football on Instagram. I'm not doing this s-t no more. "I get to see around the office how that f--s your head up and I feel it". The violations stemmed from violating the league's drug policy.

Irving's latest social media activity suggests he is not interested in playing in the National Football League unless there are changes to the rules, specifically the substance abuse policy.

"I love football. I wouldn't be here without it".

"Don't get me wrong, I love football. You know, I stand up for what I believe in". We've seen it countless times from Kobe Bryant's Players' Tribune poem, Marshawn Lynch's cleats on a wire and even Jared Allen riding off into the "sunset."

Last week he got his third suspension of his career and ultimately came to the conclusion that that he had to choose between weed and the gridiron.

The Cowboys have seemingly moved on from Irving as well, as sources told the Dallas Morning News last month that the team had no intention of resigning him when he became an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

He added: "Some people say 'you're addicted to weed, you're addicted to this and that'". It is medicine. I do not consider it a drug, rather than xanax bars or the hyrdros, or seroquel - all that insane sh*t that they feed you.

Irving's comments sparked a larger debate in regards to the rights of the players, and the substances they are allowed to consume.

"Well once they do that, give me a call", Irving wrote. I'm living with it. How many coaches you see getting in trouble about this?

Irving said he would rather be accused of being addicted to marijuana than some of the pain pills the National Football League pedals to players to deal with the rigors of the game and treat injuries. I'm not playing for free. Everyone thinks it's about smoking weed, it's not. "It is bullshit. I'll "Kaepernick" myself before they "Kaepernick" my ass". "How many UFC players getting in trouble?" How many baseball players?

During the live feed, Irving came out in support of medical marijuana and pointed out how unfair the testing rules are when compared to the likes of those in the NBA, NHL and Major League Baseball.
