Raiders to trade OG Kelechi Osemele to Jets

The Jets have reportedly picked up a sizable reinforcement for their offensive line.

While free agency is just days away, the New York Jets have wasted no time already making a big-time offseason splash agreeing to trade for Oakland Raiders offensive guard Kelechi Osemele. Oakland will also send a sixth-round pick to NY with Osemele.

The Raiders will also include a sixth-round pick in the trade to the Jets in exchange for a fifth-round pick, according to the Oakland Tribune's Jerry McDonald.

Osemele is a two-time Pro Bowler who has earned a reputation as one of the better offensive guards in the league.

With James Carpenter a free agent, Osemele will likely slot in at left guard for the Jets. Prior to Oakland, he spent four seasons with the Ravens.

Meanwhile, the Raiders save $10.2 million on their salary cap by dealing Osemele, who turns 30 in June.

Osemele, 29, is scheduled to receive a base salary of $9.7 million in 2019 and $11.2 million in 2020.

The deal won't become official until the new league year starts Wednesday.

Osemele has had a few injury issues. He missed most of the 2013 season after undergoing back surgery.

Raiders coach Jon Gruden and first-year general manager Mike Mayock made an even bigger splash Saturday night when they swung the deal to acquire the prolific but disgruntled Brown. Fourth-year veteran Denzelle Good, re-signed earlier this month, played well in three starts at right guard last season and it's possible that the Raiders.
