Lindsey Buckingham's voice damaged during emergency heart surgery

Lindsey Buckingham is recovering after undergoing emergency open heart surgery, his wife confirmed.

His wife Kristen Buckingham elaborated in a separate statement of her own, writing, "While he and his heart are doing well, the surgery resulted in vocal cord damage".

All touring and shows scheduled will be put on pause as Buckingham "gathers the strength to heal completely", she added. She noted that the family shared its story in hopes that it would inspire others to seek preventative care.

"This past year has been a very stressful and hard year for our family to say the least", Mrs Buckingham said in her social media post. We feel so fortunate he's alive.

She also revealed Buckingham's family had had a history of heart-related health issues and urged greater reporting from people experiencing symptoms.

"We are so thankful for the kind and generous love given by the eople surrounding Lindsey, me and our kids during this emotional time".

Buckingham last played with Fleetwood Mac just over a year ago at a Grammy MusiCares event in NY at which the famously dysfunctional British-American band were celebrated by their peers. We will never forget you'.

Lindsey Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975 with his then-girlfriend, Stevie Nicks.

Buckingham had recently been on the road to promote his new triple-disc Solo Anthology: The Best of Lindsey Buckingham.
