Walking Dead Will Lose Danai Gurira as Michonne After Season 10

Walking Dead Will Lose Danai Gurira as Michonne After Season 10

Fans of The Walking Dead have long feared that Danai Gurira would one day exit The Walking Dead after she matched starring in the biggest series on cable television with starring in the biggest movie at the box office previous year, Black Panther.

Danai Gurira, who rocketed to fame after joining AMC's zombie series in season 3 as the steely badass Michonne, will be departing the show after the tenth season.

Per the shocking development, Gurira will return as the katana-wielding Michonne for Season 10 in just a few episodes that will be dispersed throughout the season. Lincoln exited the series in the first half of season 9.

The Walking Dead fans haven't seen Dwight (Austin Amelio) since the end of Season 8, when the former Savior was forced to leave Alexandria by Darryl (Norman Reedus). Her loss will be a big blow to the show's creative plans. Gurira's new deal with AMC will definitely make it easier for the actress to pursue other ventures while having the option to return and portray the popular character that opened so many doors for her career. But we certainly would want her on the show as long as she wants to be on it.

Her exit comes after what's been reported as "prolonged negotiations" with AMC, the company who produces the show, which is broadcast in Ireland on RTÉ 2. She is an incredibly valuable character and I'm really hoping she stays.

Gurira's MCU character Okoye, the captain of the Dorae Milaje, the Wakandan Royal Guard, fought alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Infinity War and will likely play a key role in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame.
