"[Adam Levine's] shirt so reminds me of one of our pillows", someone else tweeted.

Half the band's members left, about seven more of them joined, Maroon 5 essentially became Adam Levine and whatever other lad was hanging around at the time of recording. With the game itself, came all of the emotionally loaded top-billed commercials, a lot of jokes about Tom Brady, and a halftime show performed by Maroon 5, Travis Scott and Big Boi.

More than 1 million people signed a petition to make "Spongebob" the halftime performer to honor the show's creator, Stephen Hillenburg, who died in November.

And while its halftime show is widely considered as one of the highlights of the event, featuring acts such as Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, and Lady Gaga, many are notably not impressed this year. He followed it up with "The Way You Move" with collaborator Sleepy Brown as Maroon 5 danced along with them for a soothing, soulful experience.

Morgan Jordal‏ kicked off the twitter trash talk when she posted an image of a child holding a retro cushion up to their TV screen as Levine did his thing.

Following a good deal of controversy in the weeks leading up to the 2019 Super Bowl halftime show, pop rock band Maroon 5 and hip-hop artists Travis Scott and Big Boi delivered a high-energy performance for assembled fans at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Meanwhile, the former 49ers quarterback hasn't played in an NFL game since 2016 following his decision to kneel during the National Anthem in protest against police brutality and racial inequality.

The New Yorker ran the headline, "The Artless Spectacle of Maroon 5 at the Super Bowl". He added: "I'm not in the right profession if I can't handle a little bit of controversy".

"I've never been more excited in my life to present this to the people because I believe that it's truly a reflection of all of us", Levine said.

Critics on social media were largely unhappy with the performance that was seen as boring and safe.

Levine said during the interview the public reaction hasn't affected his and the band's preparations too much. Cardi B, particularly, said she will only perform if Colin would be allowed to play again. Needless to say, fans weren't impressed that they didn't get to hear the track Sweet Victory during the show. "I am proud to support Dream Corps and the work they do that will hopefully inspire and promote change".
