Jose Mourinho tumbles at KHL hockey game

Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has paid a surprise visit to Balashikha (Moscow region) to attend a hockey game between two KHL teams, triggering much speculation about the reason for his sudden arrival. The Special One was invited to do the ceremonial puck drop before the game and learned the hard way just how slippery ice can be.

The two-time Champions League victor was helped back to his feet by Avangard's former Detroit Red Wings centreman Pavel Datsyuk after the puck drop.

Omsk quite literally rolled out the red carpet for the high-profile football manager but even that was not enough to see Mourinho avoid a video that was to quickly go viral.

Mourinho was given the sack by Manchester United last December following the team's dismal start to the season and multiple reports of issues between the manager and players, including star midfielder Paul Pogba.

The three-time Premier League victor is in Russian Federation to work on a promo for Ice Hockey Team Avangard Omsk who compete in the Eastern Conference of the Kontinental Hockey League.

He inspected the room full of skates for the players before watching the side get put through their paces on the ice before the evening's games. He might give stepping onto the ice a miss when asked next time, though.
