But every now and then, they remind us that they are capable of magic that few, if any, National Basketball Association teams ever could match.

Golden State led by as many as 38 points on the night and reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the Western Conference with a 142-111 road win.

"That was a fireworks show", Warriors coach Steve Kerr said, calling the first quarter display "beautiful, attractive basketball".

They broke the previous league record for first-quarter points of 50, most recently achieved by the Phoenix Suns against Denver on November 10, 1990.

"You always want to measure yourself against the best, let's be honest", Denver coach Michael Malone said.

"We will learn from it, we will get better from it and hopefully this can be a motivating factor moving forward". That's saying a lot considering the runs we've seen this team go on the past few years.

Golden State obliterated the Nuggets' second-ranked three-point defence. Nikola Jokic is leading the team with 19.7 points, 10.2 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game while Jamal Murray is adding 18.5 points per game.

Malik Beasley finished with 22 points for the Nuggets. The loss snapped a 12-game winning streak at the Pepsi Center, which shows just how good the Nuggets have been.

The showdown between the top two teams in the conference proved a little too big for the Nuggets, with Curry and Co. putting on a shooting exhibition all night long.

"I don't believe in flushing games when you get your (expletive) kicked", Malone said.

"We'll figure it out", Green said of working Cousins into the team.

The second quarter was much of the same for the Warriors as Denver could not do much to stop the Warriors from scoring. They're both so talented and so valuable that it's essentially impossible to give one of them the award. Kevin Durant is averaging a career-high 6.1 assists per game this season while still averaging 28.2 points a game. He's been steadily progressing after tearing his left Achilles tendon last January while with New Orleans.

"I liked the way our guys moved the ball", Kerr said.

Eric Bledsoe had 17 points and Malcolm Brogdon added 16 for the Bucks, who were on the defensive early but led 30-23 by the end of the first quarter.
