Kane out until March with ankle injury

Kane out until March with ankle injury

The England captain, 25, fell to the turf in the dying moments of Sunday's Premier League defeat by Manchester United at Wembley and remained on the field to receive treatment at the final whistle.

That appears to have ruled Kane out of the rest of Tottenham's Carabao Cup campaign, ahead of next Thursday night's semi-final second leg against Chelsea and a potential final appearance on February 24.

Per The Guardian, Kane's ankle is too swollen for Spurs to properly examine, however, he expects to be absent for at least four weeks.

The injury is a huge blow to third-placed Tottenham's titles hopes, with the loss to United leaving them nine points behind leaders Liverpool.

The striker's usual understudy, Heung-Min Son, is also unavailable for selection because he is representing South Korea in the Asian Cup, which has sparked talk Spurs will have to invest in January.

Kane's 14 goals in Premier League action are now tied for most scored this season within England's top flight.

Kane's injury is especially worrying given the form of his like-for-like replacement, Fernando Llorente, who has had a torrid time since joining Tottenham last season from Swansea City for £12million.

The two-time Premier League Golden Boot Winner winner now sits in a three-way tie for the league's scoring lead with 14 goals in 22 matches and has found the back of the net 20 times in all competitions this season.

He also looks likely to miss both legs of the Champions League duel with Dortmund, given the second leg in Germany takes place on March 5.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino said after Sunday's game that Dutch forward Vincent Janssen was "not in my plans", despite the player scoring for the club's under-23 side against West Ham on the same day.
