No 'Chaos' At WH Because I 'Have A Plan On The Shutdown'

President Donald Trump has said he has "no idea" if he will be able to strike a deal with the Democrats for his border wall and end the longest U.S. government shutdown in history.

President Donald Trump said yesterday he would not declare a national emergency "right now" to end a standoff over border security that has idled large swaths of the USA government, all but guaranteeing that he will preside over the longest shutdown in US history.

Later on Saturday, in a telephone interview with Fox News personality Jeanine Pirro, the president said if the Democrats "don't come to their senses" he would declare a national emergency to free up money for his wall without congressional approval.

"Sarah St. Vincent, a surveillance researcher at Human Rights Watch, wrote on Twitter that "'more surveillance' has become the default answer to far too many hard policy questions". "I think we're talking days, not weeks", the chairman and founding member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus said.

The stop was meant to reinforce Trump's claims of chaos and crisis at the border, but it was notable for what was left out.

A later tweet said damage from "Drugs, Crime and so much that is bad" were worse for the United States than the government shutdown.

Graham said he thinks Trump is willing to accept the $5.7 billion he has insisted on for the wall, along with some immigration measures Democrats might find acceptable, such as helping immigrants who were illegally brought to the U.S.as children.

On Sunday, he said he wants the Democrats to come back to the negotiating table. Democrats have offered $1.3 billion in new border security funding, but none specifically for a wall.

As a result, 800,000 federal employees - including FBI agents, air traffic controllers and museum staff - received no pay cheques last Friday.

Politicians are due back in Washington from their states and congressional districts in the new week.

Trump also shared on Saturday that should the Democrats change their mind about funding the border wall, the shutdown could end in a matter of minutes.

Some of Trump's fellow Republicans are warning against a disaster declaration, saying it would undercut Congress's power under the U.S. Constitution to control government spending - and make it easier for a future Democratic president to bypass Capitol Hill.

President Donald Trump might not be able to make a deal with dug-in Democrats, but he has a winning formula for 2020, regardless, against Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., according to Newt Gingrich.

But if he follows through on a threat to declare a national emergency in order to build a border wall, experts say he's going to have to rely on facts and legal arguments - and the evidence is not on his side. Declaring a national emergency over it with little information to suggest the security situation has dramatically changed could prove hard to defend in court. The bill needed the support of several Democrats, who have refused to give their votes as long as funding for the construction of a wall on the southern border it is included.

"I don't know where it's going but I can tell you this", he said.

He again attempted to gain support for the border wall, which was a key promise of his 2016 election campaign.

Pelosi argued that Trump is merely trying to steer attention away from special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation and other White House problems.

Experts have said even though the president may have the authority to invoke powers under the 1976 National Emergencies Act, using it will nearly certainly bring on a court battle. This, as polls suggest Trump is getting most of the blame for the shutdown.
