Sports Writer Let Go For Tweets About QB Kyler Murray

With a report that Oklahoma QB and Heisman Trophy victor Kyler Murray may enter the NFL Draft, the Internet was abuzz with where he might go.

Slusser notes that declaring for the draft does not mean the Heisman victor will decide to reject his $4.66 million deal with the A's outright, but it does increase the chances of him ultimately choosing football over baseball.

Declaring for the draft would not affect Murray's bonus with the Athletics as he could still return to them; a source told Slusser there's "no harm" in looking at the NFL.

"I'd like to do both if possible, " he said. While declaring doesn't guarantee Murray will play baseball instead of football, but it certainly increases that chance. I turned down a bunch of opportunities to be a Trojan and go to USC because of the great program and what I knew we could do there.

College football fans can dream of an Air Raid union made in heaven of Kingsbury and Murray playing at University of Phoenix Stadium, but there are plenty of obstacles in the way of that reality.

Murray went out and helped the Sooners put up 51 on Kingsbury's Texas Tech squad while throwing for 360 yards and three touchdowns while also running for 100 yards and a touchdown on the way to the Heisman Trophy. Boras has been steadfast that Murray will be play baseball now that Oklahoma's football season is over.

Murray has an invite to the Athletics' spring training camp next month.

Murray, an outfielder on the diamond, is due to report to spring training in Arizona on February 15 - nearly two weeks before the NFL's scouting combine takes place.

A number of former Major League Baseball draft picks ultimately chose to pursue football full time, including Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston and Ricky Williams.
