Kindergarten photo evokes Apartheid ghosts in South Africa

The viral picture that led South Africans to label Laerskool Schweizer-Reneke racist merely captured a moment and was not a true reflection of the school ethos, the school's governing body said on Thursday. The photo has since gone viral on social media and South Africans were left fuming.

She is not being named to protect the identity of her child. White people will always see black people as inferior to them.

Lest we forget that this is not a unique incident.

TimesLIVE has learnt that an investigation into the school's principal was also being carried out. Language policy has historically been used to exclude black learners. At Curro Roodeplaat School in 2015, for instance, school kids were divided by race as they made their way out of a bus during a school trip.

"The kids were quite unsettled - you must realise they were five years old on their first day at school - and she grouped them in a way she thought would settle them quickly and comfort them".

According to her statement, a little after 09:00, as she was settling down at home, she received a message on the school's WhatsApp group chat.

Meanwhile the mother of one of the black pupils has insisted the pupils were told where to sit in the classroom.

Since posting the image on her Facebook wall, it has gone viral and garnered worldwide attention.

Education MEC, Sello Lehari, this will allow investigations to continue. I have never been so livid, outraged, disappointed in all my life.

"When I got to the class before school in the morning, all the children's names were already written on the desks they were supposed to sit at". The school is being contacted and this article will be updated once its response is obtained.

After meeting school staff and education department officials, Mr Lehare confirmed that the form teacher in question had been suspended.

The image began circulating on social media.

"If you can not accept children as children, get out of the classroom".

She claimed that some parents carried guns on their waists when dropping their children off or fetching them from school.

These three examples show a trend more than coincidence.

He also defended the photo.

We expect to see more developments unfold at Laerskool Schweizer-Reneke.
