Mike McCarthy has no interest in any other job outside of Jets

He was sacked, as expected, immediately after the 2018 season. ESPN's Jeff Darlington was the first to report the hire. Gase was sacked following three seasons in South Florida.

The Jets reached out to Gase as soon as he was sacked by the Dolphins. He is set to become the first Jets head coach with previous National Football League head-coaching experience since Bill Parcells was hired by the franchise in 1997. Counting the playoffs, McCarthy and Gase won the same number of games between 2015-18. The team has a young, promising quarterback in Sam Darnold, almost $100 million available to spend in free agency and the third overall pick in April's draft.

Prior to his time as head coach in Miami, Gase was an offensive coordinator with the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos. The 40-year-old led the Dolphins to a 7-9 record last season and has a 23-25 overall record as head coach with the team. He previously worked with Peyton Manning.

More than anything else, the Jets were looking for their next coach to be able to develop Sam Darnold into their franchise quarterback.

Former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is reportedly "only" interested in the Jets opening, but it remains to be seen how much of that is reciprocated.
