New York's next minimum wage increase to take effect December 31

In addition to Missouri and Arkansas, states including California, Massachusetts, Arizona, Colorado, Washington and ME are seeing minimum wage increases as the result of past ballot legislation.

The Big Apple has been a typical metropolis that has large living expenditures mainly due to high rent and labor costs.

The highest wages will be in New York City, where fast-food workers and employees of businesses with 11 or more people will see their minimum hourly pay go up to $15 from $13.

The Nigeria Employers' Consultative Association (NECA) has said the federal government's delay on the implementation of a new national minimum wage is unacceptable.

The state minimum wage increases because it is tied to inflation.

Following Disney's announcement, Universal said it will raise its employees pay to a $12 minimum by hour in February.

Republican lawmakers and many small-business owners argue that raising the minimum wage is ultimately detrimental to low-income workers.

On January 1, the base wage will be $8.75, rising to $9.25 on October 1.

Bozeman City Commissioner Terry Cunningham is leading the charge for a local $15 an hour minimum wage for city employees by the year 2020.

The government also said "the Fair Wages Commission is taking an in-depth look at how to ensure compensation for farmworkers is both fair for workers and sustainable for farm operators". Last year, she briefly made $10 an hour until Missouri passed a law to pre-empt wage increases in its cities. The training rate applies to adult workers during their first ninety days on a new job.

Legit.ng previously reported that President Buhari was urged by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to take urgent steps to address the lingering issue on the new national minimum wage by immediately forwarding an executive bill to the National Assembly to legalise the recommendation of the tripartite Committee. It will rise to $15 on December 31, 2021.
