Nationwide internet outage affects CenturyLink

A nationwide outage affecting CenturyLink customers temporarily impacted 911 calling capability for cellphones across the country and in MA, state police said. It provided no other details, including how many customers were affected.

"CenturyLink engineers and technicians have identified a network element that was impacting customer services and are addressing the issue in order to fully restore services".

Counties all over the U.S. reported downtimes of their 911 call centers over the past hours, impacting states such as Washington, Oregon, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Idaho, New Mexico, Missouri, Arizona, Colorado, and even some 911 services across the border, in Canada. DownDetector reported initial signs of the outage around 4 a.m. ET Thursday. You can also call the 10-digit police or fire department number for your specific area.

There were reports of ATM machines not working in Idaho and Montana. Rather than using digital devices, they had to take notes with pencil and paper, according to the Greeley Tribune.

In Arizona, some police agencies said 911 systems crashed temporarily or had intermittent problems.

A nationwide CenturyLink outage is affecting emergency call services for some people in western Washington on Thursday.
