Injured Arsenal midfielder Mkhitaryan out for up to six weeks

Arsenal's bid for a top-four place has suffered a blow after it was revealed Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be out for at least six weeks because of a fractured metatarsal.

Mkhitaryan picked up the injury, during the Gunners' 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup quarter-final last Wednesday.

And the playmaker then missed the Gunners' 3-1 win over Burnley.

The North Londoners revealed the Armenia worldwide has a "fractured metatarsal in his right foot".

The midfielder will miss clashes with Premier League leaders Liverpool and Chelsea, while Arsenal's meeting with Manchester City on February 3 is likely to come too soon.

Others on the injury list include Nacho Monreal who is being assesed with a hamstring issue ahead of the Boxing Day trip to Brighton.

Arsenal is fifth in the standings, on the same points as fourth-placed Chelsea, and will visit Brighton for its next league fixture on Wednesday.

According to the Premier League side, Mkhitaryan is, "expected to return to full training in six weeks".
