E coli investigation leads to recall of USA cauliflower, lettuce in Canada

The packaging on these products does not always include the carton tag number, and shoppers should contact the location where it was sold before consuming.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is recalling certain types of cauliflower, red and green leaf lettuce due to possible E-coli contamination.

Adam Bros. Farming, Inc. recalled the produce after sediment taken from a reservoir where it was grown tested positive for the specific strain of E. coli linked to the current outbreak, E. coli O157:H7, according to the company.

The agency says there have been no reported illnesses associated with the recall, but anyone who thinks they may have purchased affected products should throw them out or return them. Farming, Inc. said. None of the filtered and treated water has tested positive for E. coli, the company said. Most people recover within a week, but some illnesses can last longer and be more severe. The condition can lead to severe kidney damage and even death.

A previous version of this story mistakenly said that Health Canada issued the recall. The recall involves produce harvested from particular fields. Farming, Inc.'s products. Not all Adam Bros. products have been recalled, according to the statement.

The red or green leaf lettuce that was recalled was not distributed to retailers in Arizona.

The farm issued a news release on December 13, saying it was recalling the cauliflower "out of an abundance of caution" and that there had been no reports of illness and so far none of the newly recalled products have been contaminated.
