Verizon, Samsung to launch 5G smartphone in first half of 2019

The Infinity O display looked to be the first of its kind to be featured on the Galaxy A8s, which we thought would be the world's first. The promo image confirms that the device will be officially announced in China on December 17, one week after Samsung launches the Galaxy A8s. Samsung's announcement came in just a day after Huawei announced about its Nova 4 that will also have the same top corner hole for selfie camera to be unveiled a week later on December 17.

It is worth mentioning that this week, Samsung and Verizon will jointly attend the Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology Summit in Hawaii to showcase a proof-of-concept of 5G connectivity with the Snapdragon X50 modem. The A8s has a mostly (more than 95 percent) front face covered with a functional display with only a small hole in one corner which many believe to be space for the selfie camera. It was only two days ago when Huawei confirmed the launch, for this month, of their much anticipated Nova 4 with a similar display. It now seems Samsung wants to get out in front by announcing the Galaxy A8s on December 10, a full week earlier than the Nova 4.

Samsung, which was expected to be the first smartphone maker to unveil a foldable smartphone was beaten by Royole, a startup that launched the FlexPai, a foldable smartphone.

Talking about the design, the smartphone will carry a true bezel display with no-notch whatsoever with an Infinity-O display.

Under the hood, it'll be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC, coupled with 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB storage. Huawei and its upcoming Nova 4 handset is once again at the center of it all. The Nova 3i, on the other hand, features a 6.3-inch screen of FHD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 409 ppi. A recent report also stated that the mid-range smartphone would do away with the beloved 3.5mm headphone jack.

Official images of the actual device have not been released but teaser images have shown that this will be a huge release for the company.
