This radio station is banning 'Baby, It's Cold Outside.' Here's why

Cleveland radio station WDOK removed the song from its list of holiday music after objections from listeners, host Desiray McCray told local media last week.

It includes the female singer saying lines like "I really can't stay" and "baby don't hold out" - which many people regard as creepy and suggestive of sinister sexual coercion.

The 1940s Christmas classic "Baby, It's Cold Outside" no longer stands the test of time.

Complaints: These radio listeners aren't the only ones to complain about the song.

Why: Glenn Anderson, a host for the radio station that banned the song, said the lyrics felt "manipulative and wrong". The song details a back-and-forth, traditionally between a man and a woman, where the man tries to convince a woman to stay the night despite her continued protests, saying, "The answer is no".

The song was written by Frank Loesser, who also wrote the Broadway musical Guys and Dolls. "The song seems odd now not cuz it's about coercing sex but about a woman who knows her reputation is ruined if she stays".

Sondra Miller, president of the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center, said that "in 2018, what we know is consent is "Yes" and if you get a "No" it means "No" and you should stop right there".

The song was originally written for the 1944 film "Neptune's Daughter", and would go on to win Best Original Song at the Oscars that year.

"I'm so exhausted of this", Kirkman tweeted.

While it is certainly not the first year that the song's lyrics have been put under the microscope, it is the first year that radio stations around the world are opting to leave it off the airwaves - likely in the aftermath of the #MeToo movement.

Special criticism has been reserved for the line "say, what's in this drink", which has been accused of carrying the implication that the woman's drink has been spiked.
