The highest earning YouTube star of 2018 is a 7yo boy

A seven-year-old boy who reviews toys has been named as the highest earning YouTube star after making £17.2m in just a year.

Ryan, from Ryan ToysReview, made the hefty sum for his online reviews between June 2017 and June 2018.

The school child has out-earned some of YouTube's biggest names, including Jake Paul, PewDiePie and Logan Paul. His latest mini-mogul move: "a line of collectibles and more, now selling at Walmart", the Forbes said in the announcement.

Videos are posted most days and one promoting a blue giant mystery egg bearing Ryan's face has had more than a million views since Sunday.

The estimate by Forbes magazine found that Ryan of Ryan ToysReview pipped Jake Paul by $US500,000 for the 12 months to June.

Coming in at second place on Forbes' annual Highest Paid YouTube Stars list was former Disney actor Jake Paul, who took home an easy $29.2 million.

Forbes measured pre-tax earnings from 1 June 2017 to 1 June 2018, without fees for agents, managers and lawyers being deducted. In total, the top 10 grossed $180.5 million (about Rs. 1,270.26 crore) by Forbes' calculations, which is up 42 percent from past year.

Since the channel was set up by Ryan's parents in March 2015, its videos have had nearly 26 billion views and amassed 17.3 million followers.

"I'm entertaining and I'm amusing", Ryan recently told NBC interview, explaining his appeal.

According to Forbes, all but $1.36m of the $29.9m earned by Ryan's channel comes from advertising shown before his videos, with the remainder earned from sponsored posts. The report states that almost 96 percent of his revenue came from ads while the remaining amount came from sponsored posts.
