Benjamin Netanyahu, Mike Pompeo to meet in Brussels

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was to hold talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Brussels on Monday, a day after police recommended the premier's indictment in a third graft case.

Police say the investigation, which included the testimony of 60 witnesses, revealed that Netanyahu and Bezeq boss Shaul Elovitch engaged in a "bribe-based relationship".

Both Netanyahu and Elovitch have denied any wrongdoing.

Despite his dominance of Israeli politics, the newest police recommendation comes just after his right-wing coalition's majority in parliament was reduced to the slimmest of majorities.

Netanyahu will be accompanied by top Israeli intelligence and military officials.

Police said there was evidence to charge Netanyahu with bribery, fraud, breach of trust and unlawful acceptance.

Police also said there is enough evidence to charge the Israeli leader's wife, Sara Netanyahu, with fraud, receiving bribes, and interfering with an investigation.

"Of course we will also discuss other issues".

In response to the police findings, Netanyahu said, "The police recommendations against me and my wife do not surprise anyone". The case revolves around suspicions that confidants of Netanyahu promoted regulations worth hundreds of millions of dollars to the Bezeq telecoms company in exchange for positive coverage of the prime minister on Bezeq's subsidiary news website, Walla.

In return, Israeli police say Netanyahu pushed for the so-called Milchan Law, which ensures that Israelis who return to live in Israel from overseas are exempt from paying taxes for 10 years. Former journalists at the Walla news site have attested to being pressured to refrain from negative reporting of Netanyahu.

Netanyahu is not the only Israeli public figure to be embroiled in corruption scandals.

The police accused Deri of committing fraud and breach of trust among other charges.

Paul Goldman reported from Tel Aviv; Saphora Smith from London.
