Daredevil Cancelled After Three Seasons | News

Daredevil is the third Marvel/Netflix collaboration to be canceled, leaving Punisher and Jessica Jones as the last remaining series on the streaming provider.

In a disappointing (but ultimately unsurprising) turn of events, Netflix officially canceled its Daredevil series this week after a three-season run.

The existing three seasons will remain on Netflix, and the streamer said Matt Murdock and his crime-fighting alias Daredevil "will live on in future projects for Marvel".

Disney has its own streaming video service in the pipeline, Disney+ and a late 2019 target for its subscription-based launch.

Of those shows, only Jessica Jones and The Punisher remain on Netflix's slate (there are no current plans to renew The Defenders, the miniseries which features numerous aforementioned heroes, for a second season). Additionally, Netflix hints at the possibility that we'll see more of Daredevil. Considering the success of Marvel at the box office, comic book shows were a no-brainer.

Last night, the news broke that Netflix's Daredevil was the latest of the Netflix Marvel shows to be canceled, following the previous axing of Luke Cage and Iron Fist earlier in the month.

The surprise move comes shortly after Daredevil showrunner Erik Oleson pitched Season 4 of the show to Marvel and Netflix executives. A new Marvel limited series featuring Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as fan favorite character Loki is already confirmed for the new service, known as Disney+. "Mostly I'll miss seeing the friends I've made everyday". As of right now, we have no idea if these series will be brought over to the Disney+ streaming service. These will most likely connect to their output in the Marvel cinematic universe, meaning separate, more violent strands like Netflix's world will likely be a no-go on the platform. Season 3 of Daredevil just premiered to positive reviews from fans and critics, just like the previous two seasons, but it is believed that viewership has continued to decline, which may or may not have been the deciding factor for the cancellation. And it certainly paid off, as we got three seasons of Daredevil plus The Defenders miniseries.
