Falcons bolster pass rush by adding veteran Bruce Irvin

He was Irvin's position coach from when Seattle drafted him in the first round in 2012 until he signed a $27.7 million contract with the Oakland Raiders following the 2015 season. He was the highest-paid defensive player for the Black and Silver.

The Falcons hope Irvin adds new punch to the pass rush. The 31-year-old was born in Atlanta and grew up in Georgia. Maybe the addition of Irvin will spark more production out of Beasley. Officially, he is listed as a defensive end on the Falcons' roster.

On Wednesday, Irvin chose to take his talents to the Atlanta Falcons.

"This was a dream true", Bruce Irvin told ESPN on Wednesday after reports emerged he'd be joining the Falcons. Irvin has plenty to offer that could prove to beneficial this season but also may put him in play to be a long-term fixture with the franchise well beyond the 2018 campaign.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots offered more money but Irvin cared more about playing for his hometown team. Injuries and near losses meant a 1-3 start for the team. But the Falcons have won three in a row since then and still have the talent to get back in the wild-card race. The offense is already one of the league's top units. "I'm just very fortunate to be an Atlanta Falcon right now". If the Falcons offense continues doing its job and the defense plays as well as it has lately, the playoffs are in no ways out of reach for this team.

It was as if every other team knew there was no chance.
