Le’Veon Bell may not report by deadline after learning new information

Le'Veon Bell has said farewell to Miami and returned to Pittsburgh but he still has not met with the Steelers as the Week 11 deadline rapidly approaches.

The Athletic reported a month ago that Bell would qualify as a third franchise tag even if he didn't show by the deadline. This Carolina team has staying power, and now is their chance to prove it. Offense will probably be the name of the game for both teams, and while that prospect has fantasy football owners drooling, that is a coach's worst nightmare. That is why teams never franchise tag a player for a third consecutive year.

The Steelers could try to prorate a transition tag if Bell plays games this year, and if he sits out the entire year the transition tag would be worth 120 percent of his last salary, which is $14.5 million (based on his $12.1 million in earnings from 2017). "So, there are questions that we may get to at the end of the season".

Reports from earlier in the season suggested Bell needed to sign with the team by November 13 if he wanted to retain his free agent eligibility following the season. A win here for the Panthers would put the rest of the country on notice and let them know that this Carolina team is more than just a flash in the pan. While there apparently was no meeting between Bell and the Steelers on Wednesday, the three-time Pro Bowl selection did shed some light on his situation with a pair of unorthodox tweets.

"Just about everybody has an opinion on my life & anxious about what I'm doing", Bell wrote. Don't judge me off my decision because maybe this isn't what you'd do. & that's clearly on them.
