Arizona Senate race too close to call

Arizona Senate race too close to call

Democratic Rep. Tom O'Halleran's mainly northern Arizona seat was too close to call early Wednesday, and the outcome will determine which party gets the majority of the state's nine member U.S. House delegation.

McSally is clinging to a 49.3 percent lead.

McSally held a narrow lead, according to results posted on the Secretary of State's website, but potentially hundreds of thousands of votes statewide had yet to be counted as of midnight.

The two candidates aim to make history as the first female senator from Arizona.

Democrats hope Sinema can reverse a decade-long losing streak in all Arizona statewide races. Neither candidate spoke at her party's celebration Tuesday night. The remaining partygoers nursed their beers. Ducey is facing Democrat David Garcia, an education professor.

Fox News contributor Karl Rove can read the tea leaves - and was already predicting a Democratic victory in the House on Monday, 24 hours before election day. Sinema had responded it would not bother her if she did so.

"We want to see any semblance of a blue wave - whether it's just a trickle, or anything - to take over control and hold somebody in check", Glass said in an interview. All three are running to replace retiring Senator Jeff Flake.

Millions of dollars have been spent to define the candidates in the eyes of voters.

McSally and Sinema spent Election Day trying to drum up every vote possible during last-minute stops at local restaurants. She votes with the president over half the time. Republicans have won every statewide race since 2006. If she loses, then 2018 is just another Senate election in Arizona - no different than the last 30 years.

Many Democrats have been critical of Trump's decision to send troops to the border, but a poll from Rasmussen shows that 50 percent of Americans support the decision.

Evidently, a surge in Democratic enthusiasm in Arizona wasn't enough to push Sinema to a fast win.

Arizona's knock-down, all-out Senate race is heading into overtime, as a neck-and-neck contest between two congresswomen collides with Arizona's sometimes glacial vote-counting procedures.

"My job has always been to do a good job and to try to earn the support of all Arizona voters, regardless of political party", Sinema said.
