Gerrard's Rangers beaten in Scottish League Cup semis

Gerrard suffered his first major setback since taking charge of the club when the Gers lost 1-0 to Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup yesterday.

Aberdeen initially received a similar semi-final allocation but their share was cut by more than 5,000, 10 days before their clash against Rangers, with sales just over the 9,000 mark. I pick the players, I sign the players, I pick the game plan so I'll take responsibility for this. The worst thing you want after a semi-final loss is a long time to wait to play again. "We're really disappointed and we've now got a point to prove against Kilmarnock on Wednesday".

However, Windass is still clearly passionate about the club and hopefully we can learn from the experience to start winning these games once more.

Gerrard has spent time looking back on Sunday's reverse ahead of welcoming his players back for training this morning, and he hopes what he saw from his charges at the Hummel Training Centre today will be replicated at Ibrox tomorrow.

"It's Aberdeen's day, we wish them well".

I personally don't know if it was as clear-cut as that as some of our players went hiding and were below par.

"The players look ready and raring to go for tomorrow night". We have got a good group of lads in there and we have got a good team-spirit in there - lads who are not happy with the result at the weekend and want to go and make the supporters happy again.

"I thought we would of had to play better than we did, truth be told, to win the game but I knew we had to defend well and show enough resilience as we have shown in the cup and thankfully that part of the game has got us into the final".

It will be a highly anticipated game with Celtic going for five domestic cup wins in a row.

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said: "I'm pleased that we've been able to reach an outcome that allows both clubs to finalise their ticket arrangements for what should be a showcase Betfred Cup final at Hampden Park".

Gerrard also revealed an injury to Ovie Ejaria, adding: "He is a doubt". We found it hard at sometimes during the game to lose them.
