Jamal Khashoggi’s killing was a premeditated crime, Saudi prosecutors say

CIA Director Gina Haspel visited the Turkish capital Ankara on Tuesday for talks with officials about the killing of Washington Post contributor Khashoggi, inside Saudi Arabia's Istanbul consulate.

Britain will revoke the visas of Saudi Arabian suspects involved in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Prime Minister Theresa May said on Wednesday.

The crown prince, striking a defiant tone Wednesday, said "justice will be served in the end" during his first public remarks about the investigation into Khashoggi's death.

A senior intelligence official and an adviser to Prince Mohammed were also removed from their jobs. "He's running things and so if anybody were going to be, it would be him", Trump said.

Saudi King Salman, right, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, second right, receive Sahel, a family member, and Salah, a son, of Jamal Khashoggi, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on October 23, 2018.

Turkish officials say President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Saudi prince have discussed what they said were "the need for joint efforts to shed light on all aspects of on the killing".

As for his vision for the future of the Middle East, Saudi Crown Prince said: "If we look at the Middle East, the countries that work well are oil-dependent".

President Donald Trump on Tuesday suggested MbS could be behind the murder.

Meanwhile, in Istanbul, Turkish police sent water samples taken from a well at the Saudi consul general's residence for forensic testing.

She said the Saudi arms sales policy was "under review", echoing comments made by Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt in parliament on Monday.

Striking a defiant tone, Prince Mohammed told worldwide investors at a major conference in Riyadh that the furore over Khashoggi's killing at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul would not derail the kingdom's reform drive.

A forensics team was first allowed into the consulate building on October 15, two weeks after Khashoggi was killed.

Saudi Arabia is the lynchpin of a US -backed regional bloc against Iran but the crisis has strained Riyadh's relations with the West. Dozens of Western officials, bankers and company executives shunned a big investment conference in Riyadh this week.

The president said he wanted to believe the crown prince's statement that lower-level officials were to blame.

While many in the Western political establishment have expressed shock that Saudi Arabia would target one of its journalists, the prospect of imposing economic sanctions or cancelling multi-million arms deals has been mixed.

Trump said that he was convinced King Salman had no advance knowledge of the incident, according to the Journal.

He also said last Wednesday that he was "not sure yet that it exists".

This week Turkish President Erdogan said Turkey had strong evidence the journalist was killed in a premeditated and "savage" murder and has called for the suspects to be tried in Istanbul.

Across the Atlantic, the USA and Canada too have resisted the call to put the pause on arms sales, despite the growing evidence that suggests Khashoggi's death was premeditated.
