Google makes it way easier to delete your search history

Google tweaked its software to make it easier for you to delete search history and find important privacy controls, the company said Wednesday.

The move comes amid increased concern about how the public's data is handled by big tech companies, most recently in the case of the Facebook Cambridge Analytica scandal. Google says in a blog post it will also provide speedy access to other privacy-related settings as you search, like letting you access ad privacy settings.

Before this change was made, the only way to access your data and see how it is used was via your Google Account. Google's intention with the new account experience is to surface the data from those apps in the apps themselves.

The new, easier access to privacy controls are starting with Search, but Google says they're going to be bringing the easier access to their other Google products including Maps next year.

As we know, Google keeps a log of everything you search for on its search. This is also an effort by Google to make these privacy tools much easier to access and use.

The update follows recent revelations of a Google+ bug that left the private information of about 500,000 users open to third-party developers.

Google uses your search data to show you relevant ads, personalized search results, and suggestions.

Google has unveiled a new feature today that immediately lets users access and delete their search history within search itself.

Google plans to provide users greater transparency about how its products and services collect and share personal data, a move that comes as the tech giant finds itself the latest target of US regulators and critics over data-privacy issues. It will be rolling out to the Google App for Android (and iOS) in the weeks ahead. Being able to not only see your personal data, but also delete it, puts more control in the user's hands - where it should be.

When will these privacy controls be available?
