Mega Millions Jackpot Ticket Sold In South Carolina

Mega Millions Jackpot Ticket Sold In South Carolina

Lottery officials in the southern state say a ticket that matched all six numbers of Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing was sold at the KC Mart shop in Simpsonville.

The other winning ticket in MA has not yet been claimed.

Given the missed estimate, the top prize remains a $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot shared by winners in California, Florida and Tennessee in January 2016. The winning numbers were 5-28-62-65-70, with a Mega Ball of 5.

The Baton Rouge tickets were bought at the Circle K at 9320 Burbank Drive and Romero's Food Mart at 13921 Joor Road.

"I said, 'How does it feel to be a millionaire?'" he told Virginia Lottery officials.

The Mega Millions ticket sold at SLO Quick Stop at 2600 Broad Street.

"I hope he will keep coming in", Patel said with a broad smile.

A person in SC is now a billionaire!

"The final total was less than the $1.6 billion estimate because estimates are based on historical patterns of jackpot rolls, but there were few precedents for a jackpot this size", said Kansas Lottery Executive Director Terry Presta. If the prize was estimated as a more common $100 million and the payout was $96 million, would anyone notice? The Whistle Stop will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The world may never know who the victor is, however. Winners have up to 180 days to come forward to claim their money. Most winners take the cash option, which would be $354.3 million.

The name of South Carolina's last big victor - a $399 million Powerball jackpot in September 2013 which at the time was the fourth biggest lottery prize in USA history - has never been made public.

Patel said lottery ticket sales were brisk leading up to Tuesday and he has no idea who bought the victor. She bought her million-dollar ticket at the Cumberland Farms store on Main Street in Bridgewater, said Christian Teja, spokesman for the Massachusetts State Lottery. One was sold in Mount Pleasant and the other in Grandville. "Now I know y'all have it!"
