Timberwolves' Jimmy Butler asking price 'too steep' for Heat, interested teams

Timberwolves' Jimmy Butler asking price 'too steep' for Heat, interested teams

Despite Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor's reported insistence that the team trade disgruntled star Jimmy Butler, the asking price is said to be too high.

- National Basketball Association sources confirm that the Houston Rockets are making a strong effort to land Jimmy Butler in a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves as reported by FOX 26 Sports.

Jimmy Butler apparently has altered his thinking when it comes to where he would like to be traded. Based on the situation in Minnesota now and an incident involving Dwyane Wade and Butler gossiping to the media and creating a rift among their teammates in his previous year on the Chicago Bulls, it's clear that Butler is not going to be a 100% team guy. But Butler is on a de facto expiring contract, and Minnesota is already below the luxury-tax line this season.

Several teams are willing to make a trade for the four-time All-star.

The 6-foot-8 small forward had a wonderful campaign with the Timberwolves previous year, averaging 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists.

Now there is a report that the Heat is at the top of Butler's list, amid his standoff with the 'Wolves that has him away from the start of training camp.

Conflicting reports came out last week as ESPN reported Minnesota's front office was shutting down trade requests from other teams. O'Conner mentions to Simmons that he's heard from multiple people that Minnesota's counteroffer to the Sixers for Butler was demanding Ben Simmons in return. The Heat could be keeping Richardson off limits equally because of how well he and Butler could work together and simply because they think they have the leverage to do so. Another thing I have noticed is that the player usually gets traded to a team nobody expected. Thibodeau now may be looking to restock the cupboard, and won't rush to make a bad deal for a player he believes is among the NBA's best. Our conversations (between Butler and Thibodeau) will remain private.
