Trump accuses China of election 'meddling'

President Trump took aim at China and Iran while chairing a U.N. Security Council meeting on nonproliferation on Wednesday - accusing China of meddling in the US midterms, and promising sanctions "tougher than ever before" on Iran.

Chairing his first U.N. Security Council meeting today, President Donald Trump criticized China for its trade practices and further suggested that the country's leaders were "attempting to interfere" in the upcoming USA midterm elections.

There is extensive evidence linking Russian Federation to attempts to penetrate US elections systems and to influence USA voters.

"Regrettably, we found that China has been attempting to interfere in our upcoming 2018 election, coming up in November, against my administration".

"They don't want us to win, because I am the first president to challenge them on trade", Trump said in his opening remarks.

"There were too many false realities that were created - that people worship - that I think needed to be changed", Kushner said on the anniversary of the signing of the Oslo Accords.

U.S. officials have not immediately responded to requests for comment after Mr Trump's claims.

While Trump's comments on the peace plan were brief, they at the very least signal policy growth from a year ago, when he addressed the UN General Assembly for the first time.

The Trump administration has in the past said it would support a two-state solution if both sides agreed to it.

The US midterms elections are due to take place in November 2018.

Trump said he would like to release that plan "over the next two to three to four months, something like that".

Trump also repeated his insistence that his decision to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem removed a major stumbling block to negotiations, even though his own advisers have insisted the move did not prejudge the boundaries of Jerusalem or a future Palestinian state.

The US president explicitly backed Israel, noting the moving of the US Embassy to Jerusalem and suggesting that he saw progress on the horizon for Middle East peace.

Trump indicated that moving the embassy was "a big chip" the US delivered to the Israelis. But with the elections less than two months away, USA intelligence and election-protection officials have not cited any specific, credible Chinese efforts.

But Trump signaled the move would require Israel to "do something that will be good for the other side". And so obviously they have to start, you know, we have to make a fair deal.

President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hold a bilateral meeting during the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly at U.N. headquarters.
