UAE dismisses Iran's allegations on terror attack

Thousands of people packed the streets of the southwestern Iranian city of Ahvaz to mourn the victims.

Of the 25 killed, a dozen were members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, the country's elite security and military organization.

Cries and wails erupted when the casket of a local Ahvaz hero, 54-year-old Hossein Monjazi, a disabled war veteran and Revolutionary Guard member who had lost a leg and a hand in the Iraq-Iran war of the 1980s, was brought out.

"It is Americans who instigate them and provide them with the necessary means to commit these crimes", Rouhani said of the attackers.

While not much is known about the group, ASMLA, one of the main separatist Arab groups in Khuzestan, spokesperson Yaghub Hur Totsari said the Ahvaz National Resistance group is actually "an umbrella organisation of all armed movements" operating in Khuzestan for the cause of Arab independence from Iran.

The group's media wing, Amaq, released a new video Monday in which the terror group shows three individuals driving in a vehicle and vowing to attack "infidels" in Iran.

Iran declared Monday a national day of mourning.

In the video, two men wearing military uniforms speak in Arabic about "carrying out jihad" and the third, in Persian, purportedly about the impending attack.

As he was about to depart to New York, Rouhani squarely blamed the U.S. for facilitating the attack by backing the Gulf states that provide continuous support to the militant groups aiming to thwart the Iranian government.

Four assailants fired on a viewing stand in the southwestern city of Ahvaz on Saturday, where Iranian officials had gathered to watch an annual event marking the start of the Islamic Republic's 1980-88 war with Iraq.

The Iranian foreign minister summoned the ambassadors of the Netherlands and Denmark and British charge d'affaires on Saturday evening, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said.

Iranian military officials have accused the U.S. on a number of previous occasions of supporting IS, including in the aftermath of an IS-claimed gun and bomb attack targeting the Iranian parliament in June 2017, and in Afghanistan, but without providing specific details.

Iran has said it has arrested a large network of suspects over Saturday's attack.

The little-known separatist militant group has no global recognition; Iran accuses the USA and Gulf States of backing it.

According to media reports, the Al-Ahvaziya group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

"What would Americans think if we were to say such a thing about the 9/11 terrorist attacks?" he added.

Following the OPEC meeting, which left the OPEC+ supply as-is without announcing any immediate production boosts, oil prices jumped to four-year highs early on Monday, with Brent Crude breaking above $80 at $80.03 as of 07:41 a.m. EDT, and WTI Crude rallying 1.68 percent at $71.97. The United States condemns any terrorist attack anywhere, period.
