Cruz, O'Rourke Hold First Debate In Dallas

A new poll out today shows that U.S. Senate Democratic candidate Beto O'Rourke leads Sen. Cruz took to Twitter to further comment on the incident.

Enten appeared on CNN's show "New Day" to discuss the Senate race in Texas, where Democrats are enthusiastic about the prospect of O'Rourke upsetting Cruz in the deep-red Lone Star State. "I know what a sacrifice that is to his family", O'Rourke said.

O'Rourke, who is challenging Sen. He suggested those were supported by "gunowners and non-gunowners alike", but when he said the common GOP refrain after gun violence of offering "thoughts and prayers" wasn't enough, Cruz bristled.

But don't worry if you can't make the jaunt up I-35. Ted Cruz traded blows in an atmosphere that somehow managed to convey the tight race pollsters say is unfolding and yet steer clear of any mudslinging.

The candidates also differed regarding the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, which has engulfed Washington recently with a thinly sourced allegation of sexual misconduct by Mr. Kavanaugh more than three decades ago made by Christine Blasey Ford, a California professor. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and his Democratic challenger U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke of El Paso was Friday night in Dallas.

The second debate will be in Houston on September 30.

O'Rourke, however, has repeatedly insisted he has no political plans beyond his race with Cruz.

Cruz finished second in the 2016 Republican presidential primary. Cruz called O'Rourke "out of step with Texas", and O'Rourke responded that "only one of us has been to each county in Texas". Cruz has even tried to tie O'Rourke to preferring tofu over Texas' iconic barbeque.

President Trump will visit Texas in October to stump for Cruz. In Mr. Cruz's case, the senator showcased a masterful command of nearly every topic, while Mr. O'Rourke unfailingly managed to take any issue and tie it to a specific individual he has met while crisscrossing Texas.

"I think what he's fighting for doesn't work", Cruz said.

O'Rourke's candidacy has drawn large crowds in Texas and a following among progressives nationally. He eventually supported his party's candidate.

Nonetheless, O'Rourke has raised significantly out-raised Cruz.
