Miami Heat Have High Interest in Trading for Jimmy Butler

The max contract that the Timberwolves could offer Butler could be worth five years and $189 million. Reports indicate Butler has requested to be traded, and there are up to three teams where he would potentially sign a maximum contract extension.

So, one of the teams Butler would apparently be OK with being traded to is the Knicks. Butler reportedly informed Tom Thibodeau of his desire on Tuesday. Thibodeau coached Butler for four seasons with the Chicago Bulls, helping him develop into an All-Star, and then acquired him in June 2017 to play for the Wolves. Butler repeatedly has said he wants to be in the best place to win a championship, and Minnesota isn't the best option for that.

In addition, the list of players that the Heat would be using in such a deal are either older than what the Timberwolves would prefer or lack the potential to develop into standout players.

So despite his request for a trade, it seems likely Butler will remain in Minnesota - and likely will for some time to come.

A first-round draft pick in 2011, Butler was named the NBA's Most Improved Player in 2014-15. Butler's time with the Wolves saw Minnesota return to the National Basketball Association playoffs for the first time in over a decade.

A breakdown in relationship with Karl-Anthony Towns is thought to be part of the cause to Butler's frustrations.

Thibodeau had been planning to meet with Butler in Minnesota about the situation but instead traveled to LA to see him earlier this week.
