Jimmy Butler requests trade from Timberwolves

Jimmy Butler does not want to work for the Minnesota Timberwolves anymore, reports say, and he has apparently given the front office a three-team shortlist of where he'd like to go. Reports indicate Butler has requested to be traded, and there are up to three teams where he would potentially sign a maximum contract extension.

He has requested a trade away from Minnesota following a meeting with team president and head coach Tom Thibodeau.

Butler also turned down a contract extension offered by the Timberwolves earlier this offseason, knowing he could wait another season, become a free agent and sign a bigger contract. Hollis-Jefferson has been a solid part of the Nets' program for the past three seasons, but the opportunity to add a player of Butler's caliber is rare and his presence could lead to another star taking the franchise seriously in free agency.

The Wolves acquired Butler on draft night in 2017. Notably, Sporting News reported in June that Butler had a problem with former No. 1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins.

Before Butler, the Timberwolves hadn't sniffed the postseason since Kevin Garnett was in his prime. The T-Wolves also received a first-round pick in the deal.

Butler only appeared in 59 games with the Wolves, averaging 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2 steals per game.

Timberwolves training camp is scheduled to begin next week.
