Musk signs up first passenger for round-the-moon trip on SpaceX

When asked if he was the passenger, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk simply replied with a Japanese flag emoji.

SpaceX on Thursday announced a new plan to launch a tourist around the Moon using its Big Falcon Rocket (BFR), a massive launch vehicle that is being created to carry people into deep space.

The moon trip makes good on SpaceX's 2017 announcement that it meant to send two private individuals around the moon by the end of 2018 aboard a Falcon Heavy rocket and Dragon spacecraft.

The tweet had no further details, but Musk ― who has been in the news for smoking a blunt on camera and calling one of the Thailand cave rescuers a pedophile ― may have provided a clue to the passenger's identity. We're probably looking at years of testing and planning before the BFR is ready to carry a human passenger, and taking them to the moon and back is much different than ferrying someone to the ISS. "Find out who's flying and why on Monday, September 17", the company tweeted.

SpaceX will reveal the passenger and say when the launch will take place during an announcement Monday. "And they're very serious about it".

In February, SpaceX debuted the long-awaited Falcon Heavy, which became the world's most powerful operational launch vehicle, the report said.

"I feel fairly confident that we can complete the ship and launch in about five years", Musk said. "That would be on a Dragon 2 spacecraft and a Falcon Heavy rocket, which is due to do its maiden launch this summer".

The rocket in combination with a spaceship capsule is being built by SpaceX with the colonization of the planet Mars in mind.
