Michael Strahan: NFL Players’ Protest Has Been "Hijacked" By Angry Fans

Michael Strahan: NFL Players’ Protest Has Been

I think I would have.

What will they do with all the Nike stuff?

Nike's approach is one the NFL, which is largely run by older, wealthy white men, has chosen not to take in responding to players choosing to protest social justice issues during the national anthem. "We do not condone those actions, but we support the positive changes he has made to better himself off the field", Kent said. While nearly nobody had a negative view of Nike prior to the Kaepernick campaign according to ESPN, 17 percent of respondents in the latest poll now view Nike negatively.

Kaepernick starred in an ad campaign that debuted during the first National Football League game of the season last week. "Consumers who are most likely to shop online, and shop athletic apparel and footwear, are very much in tune with the movement and the willingness for a mega-brand to stand up against the establishment".

But the boycott proved fleeting and had no impact on half of Americans' views about the company, the poll found. ESPN business insider Darren Rovell revealed just how the ads impacted Nike as a company.

While the campaign featuring Kaepernick angered many conservatives, some market analysts called it "a stroke of genius".

The ad resonated with Nike's customer base and bolstered its relationships with sponsor athletes such as LeBron James and Serena Williams, Camilo Lyon, an investment analyst at Canaccord Genuity, argued in a research report upgrading Nike's stock.

Strahan's interview comes just a week after Nike announced that Kaepernick was the main feature in their 30th anniversary "Just Do It" campaign.

There is less support in the poll for the protests themselves. Black, white and Hispanic respondents all supported the right to protest, while Republican voters opposed the right in the context of the NFL.

Strahan added that Americans' ability to peacefully protest is one of the things that is lovely about this country.

The poll was conducted by SSRS September 4 through 9 among a random national sample of 1,008 adults.

The poll carried a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
