GoFundMe: Homeless Veteran To Get Balance Of $400,000 Amid Defrauding Accusations

The Courier-Post of Cherry Hill reports Florence police were at the home of Katelyn McClure and Mark D'Amico Thursday morning.

The couple had created the fundraiser for Bobbitt, a former U.S. Marine, after he spent his last $20 to put gas in McClure's auto when she was stranded in Philadelphia on Thanksgiving.

"This is an extremely rare situation and we are working with law enforcement officials to get Johnny the money raised on his behalf, which means the 30-day policy does not apply in this case", Whitehorne told the Philadelphia Inquirer, "This campaign is backed by the GoFundMe Guarantee, which means that in the rare case that GoFundMe, law enforcement, or a user finds campaigns are misused, donors and beneficiaries are protected".

Bobbitt has accused McClure and D'Amico of spending the money on themselves, including alleged lavish holidays and designer handbags.

Last week, a judge ordered McClure and D'Amico to hand over any remaining money to Bobbitt.

Bobbitt walked a few blocks to buy McClure gas. The couple was reportedly home at the time, and D'Amico was seen aimlessly swinging a golf club outside while the search was conducted.

However, after an August 29 court proceeding, the couple reportedly failed to meet a 48-hour deadline a judge gave them to turn over any remaining funds to Bobbitt.

The couple, for their part, claimed last month during a talk show appearance that they had given Bobbitt several thousand dollars, but he quickly blew it on drugs. Attorney Chris Fallon told The Associated Press that he learned the money was gone while speaking with the lawyer representing the couple.

With the help of two pro bono lawyers, Bobbitt sued McClure and D'Amico for the missing money last week.

Bobbitt, 35, captured national headlines past year after giving McClure, 28, his last $20 to buy gas when her auto broke down on Interstate 95 near Philadelphia, where he was living under a bridge.

They allegedly spent money to live a lifestyle they couldn't afford, including vacations and shopping sprees.

"Mr. Bobbitt is a key material witness to where the money went to because, as I have explained to the court, the money went to Mr. Bobbitt", Badway said.

The couple said on NBC's "Megyn Kelly Today" last week that they did not use any of the money that was raised, but believed there could be as little as $150,000 left after they claimed Bobbitt spent the funds on family, a trailer and truck, and drugs. But Bobbitt's lawyer said he had received only about $75,000, which includes the value of a camper and a 1999 Ford Ranger.

The seemingly heartwarming story led to high-profile television appearances for Bobbitt, McClure and D'Amico and even an interview on BBC.

Police also seized a BMW from the couple's property.

"That's what we're in the process of doing now", D'Amico added.

The Inquirer reported that D'Amico spoke of expenses that he and his girlfriend had incurred caring for Bobbitt, including time that they took off from work.

In court on Wednesday, Badway said that Bobbitt had received $200,000 but was not clear as to how much was left.

Fallon, Bobbitt's attorney, told the judge he would ask the New Jersey rehab center whether it is possible for Bobbitt to give his deposition at the facility.
