Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Who Will Premiere In October, On A New Night

For the first time since the "New Who" revival began airing in 2005, Doctor Who is moving from its Saturday block to Sunday nights.

Doctor Who will formally introduce its first-ever female Doctor this October, and on a new night.

America announced today that the new season of its flagship science fiction show, the first to star Jodie Whittaker, will screen on Sunday rather than in the series' traditional Saturday slot. Chris Chibnall takes over as head writer and executive producer from Steven Moffat for the series, which is set to return in the fall of 2018 with ten brand new episodes. The premiere will be timed to the United Kingdom broadcast, followed by a primetime encore in its new Sunday night time slot (which remains TBA). America has typical aired Doctor Who on the same date as its British counterpart. "Jodie Whittaker's Doctor is about to burst into Sunday nights - and make the end of the weekend so much more exciting", Chibnall says. "The Thirteenth Doctor is falling from the sky and it's going to be a blast". "We've got 10 standalone stories", Chibnall said last month at San Diego Comic-Con.

Does this mean that we'll be getting more earth-bound adventures for our new Doctor?

"It feels completely overwhelming, as a feminist, as a woman, as an actor, as a human, as someone who wants to continually push themselves and challenge themselves, and not be boxed in by what you're told you can and can't be".

Whovians have been incredibly excited about this new season of Doctor Who. It has been confirmed by the BBC that Season 11 of the long-running sci-fi adventure will premiere in both the USA and United Kingdom on October 7.
