Hurricane season is back with a possible storm 'as strong as Ophelia'

Writing on Twitter, the center said: "Over the next 14 days, we do not normally see the weird tropical cyclones as strong as #Ophelia form in this part of the Northern Atlantic with a central pressure of 943mb, as the same of the equivalent in Category 4 hurricanes".

Right now, current trends bring deeper, tropical moisture into the Gulf of Mexico for the Labor Day weekend as this tropical wave continues to move in from the southeast. It remains disorganized, and the model forecasts do not indicate much development to occur.

The exact timing of when the best chance of rain will arrive will depend on how quickly this system moves out of the Caribbean and into the Gulf of Mexico.

One-week rainfall forecast valid from Friday morning through next Friday morning. The storm will pose no threat to the United States.

The National Hurricane Center is giving it a 10 percent chance of developing into at least a tropical depression in the next five days in the Gulf.

Another area to watch, a tropical wave is moving through the Greater Antilles.

Florence would be the season's sixth named storm. When it becomes a named storm, its name will be Florence.

The Atlantic Hurricane Season officially began on June 1, and it seemed that it would be an extra active season since Subtropical Storm Alberto formed in late May (a full week and a half before the official start of the season).

The system that requires a closer look is a second tropical wave forecast to push off the African coast around Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
