Facebook Rolls Out Video Platform Watch Internationally

Matthew Henick, Facebook's head of content planning, strategy and media partnerships, said that localised programming with subtitles will become available on the platform as Watch is rolled out globally.

Facebook Watch competes with video platforms such as Google's YouTube and Amazon's Twitch, but says it's unique due to the social components of the service.

So for all of you outside the U.S., Facebook wants to call special attention to some of Watch's features.

Just 12 months after launching in the USA, the service enjoys 50 million monthly viewers and Facebook will be hoping to continue this success in other parts of the world.

If this platform is new to you, Facebook announced Watch a year ago where they started with a launch in the United States first. The company attributes the growth of the platform to its more social approach like making it easier to see which videos the user's friends have liked or shared as well as updates sich as opening Watch to videos from Pages.

Watch was accepted into the USA video on-demand community without much fanfare. You can subscribe to creators you like, with videos from them showing up in your Watchlist at the top of your Watch feed. "Every month, more than 50 million people in the U.S. come to watch videos for at least a minute in Watch - and total time spent watching videos in Watch has increased by 14x since the start of 2018", Facebook said in a statement. Customize this section by following more Pages or removing Pages from your follow list within Watch. Facebook is also offering new opportunities for creators and publishers from all over the world.

Videos you can participate in: We're building new video experiences that put people at the center, giving them the ability to shape the direction of the content.

In addition to letting you discover new videos or catch up with creators you love on Watch, you can also view videos you saved to watch later and even watch videos focused on audience participation like trivia games or Premieres.
