The MPCA said the smoke plume is from fires in British Columbia, Alberta and northwestern Ontario.

Those who typically walk or jog to work are advised to consider taking a bus or Skytrain instead until the air quality improves.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an air quality alert that will remain effective until Tuesday morning for areas throughout the state.

Instead, Henderson said, people in areas with smoky, hazy skies should try to limit the amount of time they spend outdoors as much as possible.
