Internet giants delete content of U.S. conspiracy theorist Alex Jones

Twitter has barred right-wing conspiracy monger Alex Jones from posting on the social-media site for one week after violating its policies, the company confirmed. They do not include the Twitter page for his website Infowars, which posted screenshots of the notice that Twitter apparently sent Jones.

Jones was banned after years of public outrage over lies spread by Infowars, including the infamous "Pizzagate" conspiracy and the false claim that the Sandy Hook shooting, in which 26 elementary school children and staff members were killed, was a hoax. Much like Facebook, Twitter's policy calls for temporary suspension after an account repeatedly violates company rules.

Dorsey said he wasn't involved in the decision to restrict the accounts, and that he found out about it after the fact through a text from Twitter lead counsel Vijaya Gadde, who also attended the interview. One of the key issues surrounded Alex Jones, the host of Infowars, who was recently purged from almost every major social media website - except Twitter.

As a result, Jones' account will remain live, but he won't be able to tweet or retweet.

The apparent change of heart reflects a Twitter still grasping to its roots as a free-wheeling Wild West of the internet in an age where online words can have serious real-life consequences. "We'll enforce if he does".

"The point here is this is not concrete", Dorsey said of the actions taken against Alex Jones.

When asked if conservative rhetoric on the platform was more extreme than liberal rhetoric, Dorsey stated: "We need to look at behaviors, when people are trying to shut down the voices of others".

Jones, each of the tech companies said, violated terms of service, particularly prohibitions against dehumanizing speech and hateful conduct. People are trying to harass others. So there is a lot of debt that we have to pay down.
