Denver Nuggets Sign Isaiah Thomas For Veteran Minimum

At the 2017-18 National Basketball Association trade deadline, the Los Angeles Lakers traded Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr.to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Isaiah Thomas, Channing Frye, and a 2018 first round draft pick.

It's with the Nuggets that Thomas will be reunited with ex-Sacramento head coach Mike Malone, and part of a Denver squad that finished with 46 wins a season ago (but finished in ninth place in the Western Conference for the second year in a row).

Hip injuries are tricky, so it's going to be fascinating to see if the surgery Thomas received will completely fix the issues that have hobbled him for the a year ago. "We hit it off, and what I learned from those relationships was that if you are honest and you are real, it's going to go a long way".

Isaiah Thomas is staying in the West and joining the Nuggets on a one-year, $2 million deal, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com reports. Thomas was in MVP contention in his final campaign with Boston, but things went downhill when he injured his hip. He was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a swap of star guards in August. He was traded to Cleveland last summer along with Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and a pair of picks for Kyrie Irving. He was an All-Star in both 2015-16 and 2016-17, averaging 25.5 points and 6.1 points in those seasons combined. After missing most of the first half of the 2017-18 season, he was dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers at the NBA's trading deadline in February. Appearing in just 17 games for the Lakers as Lonzo Ball's backup, he averaged 15.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in 26.8 minutes.
