Chelsea players take first training session after learning of Antonio Conte sacking

Antonio Conte has officially been dismissed from his position as Chelsea manager just two months after winning the FA Cup final, with Maurizio Sarri set to replace him at Stamford Bridge in the comings days.

British media pointed at the 48-year-old's likely severance package, a reported 9 million pounds ($11.81 million) if he sits out the year remaining on his contract, had been one of the sticking points.

English Premier League club, Chelsea have released an official statement confirming the exit of Antonio Conte as their manager.

Chelsea are also closing in on their first major summer signing of the transfer window, with Napoli midfielder Jorginho set to follow his former manager to the Premier League club.

The club's 64-word announcement was eventually made on Friday (Saturday NZT), ending with: "We wish Antonio every success in his future career".

However, while present players may have had issues with Conte, former Chelsea legend John Terry, who left after the league title winning campaign had nothing but praise for him.

Sky Sports News understands the player told Man City two months ago that he wanted to join them and move to Manchester.

Sarri has agreed a three-year contract worth €6.4m per season and his appointment is expected to be confirmed shortly by the west London club.

This is presumably due to the influential role he has played under Maurizio Sarri during their time at the Stadio Olimpico. The Italy global has not quite lived to his early hype at AC Milan but he has nevertheless had an admirer in the form of Maurizio Sarri.
