SNP's Hannah Bardell blasts 'farcical' House of Commons in PMQ walkout

Blackford had sought an immediate vote to have the Commons heard in private, complaining that little more than half an hour had been given over to debating the devolution amendments to the EU Withdrawal Bill last night.

"Not one single Scottish MP was able to speak in a debate that lasted less than 20 minutes", he said.

The SNP claim the EU Withdrawal Bill opens the door for a Westminster power grab which takes away from the Scottish Parliament and undermines devolution. "Having broken constitutional convention and plunged Scotland into a constitutional crisis, will the Prime Minister now commit to bringing forward emergency legislation so that the will of the Scottish Parliament can be heard and, more importantly, respected?"

May responded by denying it was a powergrab, saying the Scottish Parliament will get legislation over 80 new areas.

"Scotland's voice has not been heard. that's a democratic outrage", he said. The people of Scotland will not be disrespected by this parliament.

"This powergrab occurred when MPs from Scotland were not even given the courtesy of debating it last night, it's a democratic outrage".

Asked if it was a stunt, he replied: "Under standing orders I was entitled to push for that vote today on the basis of the lack of respect that the Conservative government and Theresa May have shown".

He insisted Wednesday's walk-out, which was backed by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, "certainly hadn't been a stunt" and that the United Kingdom was now in the midst of a "constitutional crisis".

And at the end of the questions, speaker John Bercow praised the baby girl who he said had been "a model of impeccable behaviour" despite the "turbulence" of the proceedings.

Bercow noted: "And I've just been advised that the father is the Honourable gentleman, the member for Norwich South [Labour MP Clive Lewis]". She has completely ignored Scotland.

Mr Bercow said he would be happy to take a vote on the issue after PMQs, but after Mr Blackford repeatedly refused to sit down, he ordered him to leave.

Mr Bercow said he was suspending the party leader for the rest of the day following his "repeated refusal" to take his seat when told to do so.

All of the SNP's 35 MPs then stood up and walked out collectively.

In the central lobby immediately afterwards, Blackford told the BBC he would not back down.

He made the freakish and telling claim that 'even if we'd had 100 hours of debate, the situation wouldn't have changed, ' proving the United Kingdom government's contempt for Scottish devolution and desire to rollback the powers of the devolved parliament.

He added the issue would "haunt the Scottish Tories for a generation".
