Trump confused by Trudeau’s ‘pushed around’ comment

That was the message Tuesday as U.S. President Donald Trump continued to take personal shots at Justin Trudeau, blasted Canada's dairy industry and threatened to make Canadians pay for the prime minister's alleged effrontery. "The problem was that in conveying that message, I used language that was inappropriate", he said. "I own that. That was my mistake, my words".

Trump posted his comments from Air Force One as Canada was releasing the official communique that had been endorsed by all seven leaders.

Peter Navarro says his job was to send a "signal of strength" after Trudeau's post-G7 news conference sent the US president into a fit of pique that threw the summit into disarray.

"And that's what bad faith Justin Trudeau did with that stunt press conference".

Over the weekend, President Trump suddenly retracted his endorsement of the final joint statement by the G-7 summit of world leaders, tweeting afterward he had instructed representatives "not to endorse" it.

"Very dishonest and weak", he said.

The Canadian prime minister said at a news conference Saturday that Canada will "move forward with retaliatory measures" on July 1 in response to the Trump administration's decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, the European Union and Mexico.

A day before, White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow also lashed out at Trudeau.

"If Kim shakes Trump's hand and receives lavish praise from President Trump and tries to play President Trump - look what happened to Canada - bad things are going to happen", said Graham, the hawkish South Carolina Republican.

"Canada does not believe that ad hominem attacks are a particularly appropriate or useful way to conduct our relations with other countries", Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland responded.

Navarro might be sorry for his word choice, but the White House's sentiment stands.

Mr Trump said: "If they retaliate they are making a mistake".

Trump also said at his news conference that a photograph released by German Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesman that went viral captured a friendlier mood than what the snapshot conveyed to many analysts.

"We're being taken advantage of on trade", Trump said.

Trump has consistently railed against what he claims are unfair trade practices by some of America's biggest trade partners, including Canada.

Trump said the global leaders left the G-7 meeting in good spirits and said he had agreed to sign the meeting's summary document.

"I think it's a very fair question", Trump said. Let us know what you think by voting in the poll above and sharing your thoughts in the comment section below.

Mr. Trump has threatened to bring down a 25-per-cent tariff on all Canadian-made cars and trucks, which would hit four times more exports and jobs than the metals tariffs.
