Business as usual in North Korea as public unaware of summit

She said the USA delegation would be led by Sung Kim, a veteran diplomat who recently held talks with North Korean officials.

Both North Korea and the United States have expressed expectations for the outcomes of their first summit meeting set to open in Singapore on Tuesday.

"Great to be in Singapore, excitement in the air!" the president tweeted on Sunday after landing in Singapore, where U.S.

Washington hopes the summit will kick-start a process that eventually sees Kim give up his nuclear weapons, read the BBC report, adding that the USA wants North Korea to get rid of its nuclear weapons in an irreversible manner that can be verified internationally. The impersonator, who would give only his stage name Howard X, said he was held by immigration authorities for two hours before being released and told to steer clear of summit venues.

In March, Mr Trump surprised the world by accepting an invitation from Mr Kim - delivered via Seoul - to meet in person. Trump traveled to Singapore from Canada, where he met with other world leaders whose countries make up the Group of Seven.

The jet landed at the airport Sunday afternoon amid huge security precautions on the city-state island. He was received by Singapore's Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.

Kim later met Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and was seen to be smiling broadly during the encounter.

Denuclearization of North Korea is the headline topic at Tuesday's summit between Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump, but for North Korean officials travelling to Singapore, their top priority is much narrower: protecting their leader.

Sources told CNN that USA officials have established a contingency plan for a potential second day of discussions between Trump and Kim depending on the direction of their planned meeting on June 12. "He's one of the best negotiators of all time and I'm looking forward to him adding to his historic success at the Singapore Summit", Rodman said. Some experts, including CBS News' Bob Carlin, have said it could take as long as 15 years for North Korea to completely wind down its nuclear and missile program, which is estimated to include enough material for 25 to 30 nuclear weapons.

On Sunday, as the worldwide media swarmed Singapore and Kim arrived on a special Air China flight, just hours before Trump, there was still no word.

Kim's North Korean delegation will include his sister Kim Yo Jong, White House officials cited by Bloomberg noted.

Lawmakers and policymakers are closely watching this week's historic summit in Singapore between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Julie Giguere, MD of global interpretation and translation specialists Asian Absolute, said making a good first impression will be key and Mr Trump would need to mind his manners. While hostilities ended with an armistice in 1953, no peace treaty has been signed yet.

His last trip was in June 2017 when he gave Kim a copy of Trump's best-selling book, "The Art of the Deal".

Pyongyang has said it is willing to deal away its entire nuclear arsenal if the United States provides it with a reliable security assurance and other benefits. But many say this is highly unlikely, given how hard it has been for Kim to build his program and given that the weapons are seen as the major guarantee to his holding onto unchecked power.

Both countries want North Korea's nuclear capabilities addressed.
