Portugal must be realistic at World Cup, says captain Cristiano Ronaldo

Marcelo, Real Madrid and Brazil left-back, spoke during a press conference on Thursday about his fellow countryman Neymar joining the Spanish giants, insisting that there was no problem with the Brazil striker joining the club while Cristiano Ronaldo was still there.

His 32 league goals helped him to win the Golden Boot, with second-placed Harry Kane a comfortable margin behind the Egyptian, who has emerged as a surprise potential candidate for Balon d'Or this year.

Ronaldo is also said to be unhappy with Madrid's desire to sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain.

The presentation comes amid the uncertainty in Madrid as to whether the Portuguese will still be their player next season.

Ronaldo, 33, has been linked with a move away from the 13-time European champions for the past four seasons but it appears that his threats of leaving hold more substance this time.

"I don't know what will have happened but it's good to go in the way he went after a time spent then in which he won practically everything".

Cristiano Ronaldo is planning to leave Real Madrid this summer.

With the Real Madrid superstar now 33, the upcoming tournament in Russian Federation is likely to be his final chance at winning a World Cup while at the peak of his career.

Sources close to Ronaldo's camp confirmed to ESPN FC earlier this year that the fact that Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Neymar both earned more from their clubs was a factor in his unhappiness at the situation at the Bernabeu.

"Right now we need to enjoy ourselves but in the next few days I'll give an answer to the fans who have always been by my side".

Neymar, who is under contract with PSG until 2022, will be strutting his stuff alongside Marcelo later this month when the World Cup takes place in Russian Federation.
