Lyon president reveals Nabil Fekir's transfer to join Liverpool is not close

Following the news that Liverpool were hopeful of signing Lyon's Nabil Fekir before the World Cup, it's now being reported by that the deal will be sealed on Friday.

The France worldwide had not been expected to finalise a switch to Merseyside before the end of this summer's World Cup.

It had been reported that the Frenchman would complete his move to Anfield before the tournament kicks off in Russian Federation, but Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas today (Thursday) said that it was far from a done deal.

"The deal is at a standstill". Didier Deschamps' side play their final World Cup warm-up game against the U.S. in Lyon on Saturday and the manager had instructed his squad to settle any outstanding transfer business before flying to Russian Federation.

"The whole thing will certainly not be completed during the World Cup, and I don't think anything will change before it".

"He added: "[We] have not set a base price because we have not discussed this yet".

Liverpool have already signed Fabinho from Monaco for £43.7m this summer, while Naby Keita is also arriving after a deal was agreed with RB Leipzig last summer.

Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid are also reportedly interested in the French worldwide - but Liverpool are now in the driving seat.

Shaqiri, 26, has a release clause of just £12m after Stoke were relegated to the Championship. But his determination to join Klopp's team and Liverpool's willingness to go to €60m appears to have altered the stance of the Lyon president.
